It had to happen. There had to be a way to take home a little piece of artisanal New York in a handy package. Voila, the GoodHoodGoods line of neighborhood gift buckets (brought to market with a little help from yours truly). Each GHG bucket represents a different neighborhood and includes gems from local makers like Baggu, Chocolat Moderne, and the Good Home Company.

Buckets are on sale at the Milford Hotel in Midtown and can be ordered online right here.

Every Chinese family in Flushing shuffles into this massive space adorned with chandeliers that span the width of the ceiling, and the waitstaff handles the masses like a well-oiled machine. Wait for your number to be called via microphone (listen carefully--they only say it in English once, and with a heavy accent), and then start eating immediately as soon as the first cart passes your table. Be warned: what might look like sweet-and-sour chicken strips a la Panda Express are actually chicken feet.

This place is not only is it a great option for picky eaters wary of unfamiliar tastes, textures, and animal parts, it's also delicious. The flavors are remarkably satisfying, and even Vegetarian Mock Roast Pork Buns ($2.95) leave nothing to be desired, right down to the unidentifiable vegetable substance with an uncanny resemblance to pork fat.
