I do not generally associate the wearing of jewelry with any particular emotion other than the occasional anxiety that occurs as I yank a necklace from the jewelry box while running out the door, late for work.

I make an exception, though, for Ten Thousand Things, purveyor of zen jewelry. Take, for example, these 18K gold Paisley Cluster and Stone Drop Earrings: don't they make you feel that you could sail into your company holiday party on a sea of calm?

Almost as exciting as Gatsby's parties themselves are the outfits--the beaded, sequined, feathered outfits. Prada will be hosting an exhibition of the costumes used in the film from May 1st-12th. The show will feature flapper dresses, hats, vintage kitten heels, and sparkly jewelry, as well as sketches and designs from Miuccia Prada and costume designer Catherine Martin.

Slips and camisoles, shape-wear and swimsuits, push-ups and bralets. Cosabella’s collections are as colorful as their celebrity endorsements (spotted: Megan Fox in the Molded Bra), so you can match your underwear to your mood (which hopefully isn’t always black). This is lingerie that you can whip out anytime, not just on Valentine's Day.

I find myself in the unenviable position of shopping for with a tween daughter. Shopping requests are occurring more frequently, and the process increasingly involves heated use of brand names and more than a little negotiation.

I am dreading the onset of school dances and bar/bat mitzvahs--fancy dresses up the stakes (and the price tag). Daughter & I will be shopping at Berkley Girl, where we had a pleasant excursion this weekend. The store has a cheery but low-key vibe and a sensibly edited selection of party dresses. Fingers crossed...

I hate to admit it, but occasionally the contents of my lingerie drawer has an average age of at least one, if not two, presidential terms. I have not yet been to the Cosabella sample sale in Soho, but I have heard that lingerie and loungewear is up to 60% off.

Perhaps it is time to show my birthday suit some kindness with Cosabella's sexy thongs, lacy chemises, or underwire bras, all at bargain prices of $13-$80. Ends Tuesday, so I had best get a move on.

I wish I could sew. There are so many beautiful fabrics in the world -- just imagine being able to shape them into the garment of your choice.

Until the sewing lessons happen, I satisfy myself with the occasional trip to shops with unusual fabrics. Lucky Wang has an eclectic mix of fabrics for babies and toddlers -- stripey knots, faux fur, kimono-style prints and so on.
